Description

CO2 Fire Suppression System

The CO2 fire suppression system uses carbon dioxide as the extinguishing agent. CO2 is a colourless and odourless gas, non-corrosive, non-conductive and leaves no residue after discharge. For this reason, it is suitable for protecting areas where water, foam or dry powder could cause significant damage to equipment or sensitive materials.

The system can be used in areas containing electrical and electronic equipment, electric substations, flammable liquid storage areas, kilns, ovens and spaces where valuable materials such as artworks, paintings or manuscripts are stored. After discharge, CO2 evaporates quickly and leaves no traces on the protected surfaces.

Safety Notice:

The use of CO2 systems must be carefully managed in areas where people or animals may be present, due to the asphyxiation hazard caused by oxygen displacement. Installation and use must follow the technical design, safety procedures and applicable fire protection requirements.

System Description:

Fixed CO2 systems can be activated automatically or manually. Activation may be mechanical, pneumatic, electronic or a combination of these methods, depending on the system configuration and the conditions of the protected area.

Carbon dioxide is stored in high-pressure steel cylinders under normal temperature conditions. The pressure varies according to temperature and is approximately 59 bar at 21 °C. Multiple-cylinder batteries can be used for specific protected areas, according to the requirements of the fire protection design.
